Install Both Flat Sides

SAE Flat Side

It is important to understand the installation process for SAE Flanges because it goes a long way in determining the success of a hydraulic system or piping system. SAE Flanges can be easily connected and disconnected during installation. It is also used for maintenance purposes through the zero-clearance assembly.

1. Can I install SAE Flange flat side in an assembly complete set?

It is also possible to attach the SAE Flanges to the different holes on the hydraulic system because of the infinite positioning feature it has. It might be also possible to install both flat face of the SAE Flanges together in a complete hydraulic set only if the installation procedures are carefully followed. However, it is not encourage cause of metal to metal connection have the risk of leaking which installer may not be aware.

To avoid the percentage of installation leaking, a complete set consists of a groove face and a flat face is a perfect match as the rubber o-ring is compressed in between flat and groove face SAE Flanges. It created a tight sealing and reduce the risk of leaking. There are important points that are to be noted to fully understand the installation process of the SAE Flange including what the SAE Flange bolts are used for during installation.

2. What are SAE Flange bolts used during installation?

The SAE flange bolts play a major role during installation. It consists of four holes for bolts connection making use of the UNC or metric thread. There are various grades of these flange bolts. They are Bolt grade 8.8, Bolt grade 10.9, Bolt grade SS304, and bolt grade SS316. They are explained below:

  • Bolt Grade 8.8: This is a type of bolt grade having a standard material of yellow zinc induced with carbon steel flange. They are suitable for systems that require low temperatures.

  • Bolt grade 10.9: this is a type of bolt grade that is applicable for FlZn 240hL systems. They are suitable for systems that require high temperatures. These are bolts that can be specially produced by the manufacturer upon request.

  • Bolt grade SS304: the SS304 flange grade is regarded as one of the most renowned grades of stainless-steel flange available. This bolt grade possesses high anti-corrosive properties. When compared to other stainless steel, the SS304 grade is more economical. Also, they can resist more severe and difficult environmental conditions. This is because they are durable and can be used for a long period.

  • Bolt grade SS316: the SS316 (also known as stainless steel 316) grade of flange bolt is a type of austenitic stainless steel. they are common and are widely used in hydraulic and piping systems for installation. This grade of flange bolts also possesses high anti-corrosive ability. Also, it has high corrosion resistance and strength. This is due to the presence of Molybdenum. These are bolts that can be specially produced by the manufacturer upon request.

3. How can pipes be attached to SAE Flanges during installation?

It can be easy to connect and disconnect SAE Flanges because of its zero-clearance assembly. But it is important to understand the steps involved in installing flanges. Four different methods can be used to connect the pipes to the SAE Flange during installation.

These methods are:

  • Welding end – Socket Weld or Weld-In.

  • Welding end – Butt Weld or Weld-On.

  • Threaded end – NPT.

  • Threaded end – BSPP.

If these two ends are properly used, then the piping or hydraulic system can be relied upon because it will function well. It is also essential to undergo maintenance checks regularly so that any faulty part can be replaced or repaired (whichever is the case). These routine checks ensure that the system functions efficiently and effectively

4. How can I install an SAE Flange in a system?

For you to have a functioning piping or hydraulic system, it is vital to fully understand the installation process. Because of the high-pressure level that is usually present when using SAE flanges, it is also important to ensure that the parts are properly fitted before installation starts. Also, the installation steps must be followed to the letter because any form of mistake during this process can lead to leakage of fluids which will reduce the general performance of the system.

There are three major steps involved during the installation of the SAE flange. Please refer to the steps below:

Step 1

You must ensure the various parts and components are free from contamination. Any form of contamination can affect the SAE Flange which can damage it in the long run. Therefore, the SAE Flange on the O-ring part should be properly cleaned and lubricated using harmless lubricants.

Step 2

The SAE Flange is placed in the right position. This process should be done before the O-ring seal is inserted into the female SAE Flange groove. The washer is also inserted on the cap screws and bolts on their holes.

Step 3

After the O-ring has been successfully inserted, the bolts placed on their holes are then tightened. Finally, the screws are rotated diagonally until the right torque value is attained.
