Step 1: Identify the SAE Adapter Types

The weld on the SAE Adapter has groove side and a flat side.

Weld-on SAE Groove Adapter: The adapter has an o-ring groove in the center and it formed a tight connection by placing an elastomer o-ring at the groove. This flange adapter commonly used to install with flat face equipment. It creates a leak-free installation connection when the rubber compress in the middle of the adapter. It usually supplies complete with one piece NBR seal.

Weld-on SAE Flat Adapter: The flat face or male face comes with a plain surface that does not have ridge-like a raised face or o-ring type. It allows the elastomer o-ring to have full contact with the entire mating surface.

Step 2: Identify the SAE Adapter Material

The flange adapter is available in two types of materials which are Carbon Steel ST52.3 and Stainless Steel SS316.

Stainless Steel SS316: It is commonly used in marine applications, petrochemical industry, or seashore environment. Stainless Steel SS316 is well known as a great corrosion resistance grade and the most cost-effective manner possible.

Carbon Steel ST52.3: It has a similar thermal expansion coefficient. It is a strong material and applies to common ground installation such as oil & gas platforms, excavators, power plants, offshore structures, shipbuilding, or cranes industry. The flange adapter costing is supplied in the untreated or normalized condition.

Step 3: Identify the SAE Adapter Series

The SAE Adapter series has a relationship to the working pressure. There are available in code 61 (series 3000) and code 62 (series 6000). Code 62 applied to the working pressure at 6003psi or 414 bars. Code 61 applied to the working pressure in the range from 493 psi to 5002 psi (34 bars to 345 bars). The table below shows the working pressure of each flange adapter size:

Step 4: Identify the SAE Adapter Sizes

Measure the nominal bore pipe outer diameter when connecting SAE Adapter with the pipeline. Measuring from outside edge to outside edge across the pipe to decide the SAE Adapter size and cross-check the dimensions is important to ensure data accuracy. Please refer to the pipe size dimension below to determine the SAE Adapter size:

Step 5: Confirm the SAE Adapter Quantity

Insert the total quantity required before adding to the bag.
