Step 1: Identify the SAE Blind Flange Types

The SAE blind flange has two types which are a groove side and a flat side.

SAE Blind Flange groove side: The flange has an o-ring groove in the middle and by placing an elastomer o-ring at the groove, it formed a tight connection. This flange option used to install with equipment flat side. With the rubber compresses in between, it creates leak-free installation.

SAE Blind Flange flat side (MM Bolt Thread): The flat side or male side comes with a plain surface. The 4 bolt holes have metric screw thread and it is a helical structure used to convert between rotational and linear movement or force. The screw thread is a good choice for most of the applications so that friction is sufficient to prevent linear motion being converted to rotary. The screw does not slip even when linear force is applied as long as no rotational force is present.

SAE Blind Flange flat side (UNC Bolt Thread): The SAE Blind flange 4 bolt holes have UNC thread and it is a general fastener thread. Their fit is deeper and more generic which allows for easy removal.

Step 2: Identify the SAE Blind Flange Material

The flange is available in two materials which are stainless steel SS316 and carbon steel ST52.3.

Stainless Steel SS316: It is commonly used in the petrochemical industry, marine application, or seashore areas. Stainless Steel SS316 known as great corrosion resistance material and require minor maintenance effort.

Carbon Steel ST52.3: Apply at common ground installation such as excavators, oil & gas platform, offshore structure, shipbuilding, power plant, or cranes industry. The material is supplied in the untreated or normalized condition which is black finishing.

Step 3: Identify the SAE Blind Flange Series

The SAE Blind Flange series represent the working pressure. Code 61 and series 3000 are under the same group, while Code 62 and 6000 series are under the other group. Code 62 has a heavier weight compared to code 61. Code 62 or series 3000 has a bigger body size which measurable by pitch circle diameter (PCD). Please refer to the working pressure table below before selecting the flange series.

Step 4: Identify the SAE Blind Flange Sizes

For connection, SAE Blind Flange with the piping line, measure the nominal bore pipe outer diameter if the pipe has no threads or external threads. The pipe outer diameter measured from outside edge to outside edge across the pipe and double measuring is important to ensure accurate dimensions. You can refer to the pipe size dimension below to determine the flange size:

Step 5: Confirm the SAE Blind Flange Quantity

Insert the quantity require before adding it to the bag.
