Step 1: Identify the Straight SAE Flange types

The flange has three common types which are SAE Groove Face, SAE Flat Face, SAE Double Flange.

SAE Groove Face: It comes with a groove seat to hold the O-ring seal in place during system installation. The o-ring seal compressed in between steel surfaces to reduce leakage possibilities. For every single piece of SAE Groove Face, the elastomer o-ring NBR will be provided.

SAE Flat Face: Known as male side SAE Flange and made to install with o-ring surface equipment. So that it forms a sealing surface to allow fluid flow through.

SAE Double Flange: Known as complete set SAE Flange. An SAE Double Flange consists of one flat face, one groove face, one elastomer o-ring, 4 socket head cap screws, and 4 spring washers. It is the most common SAE Flange type which allows direct connection to pipe end connection.

Step 2: Identify the Straight SAE Flange connection

The Straight SAE Flange has various connection types including threaded NPT, Threaded BSPP, Weld-In (Socket Weld), and Weld-on (Butt Weld).

Threaded NPT: National Pipe Thread, NPT is the most common threaded connection. To tighten Straight SAE Flange female threaded, a male pipe thread is needed to continue in turning in a clockwise direction until you can no longer do so.

Threaded BSPP: British Standard Parallel Pipe, BSPP is one of the widely accepted standards.

Weld-In (Socket Weld): Pipe is inserted into a recessed area of Straight SAE Flange to form the welding connection.

Weld-on (Butt Weld): The Straight SAE Flange comes with a 30-degree bevel end for butt weld connection. It allowed joint penetration welding between pipes and SAE Flanges.

Step 3: Identify the Straight SAE Flange material

Stainless Steel SS316: It is known as great corrosion resistance material which consists of molybdenum, nickel, and chromium. It is usually applicable at seawater installation.

Carbon Steel ST52.3: It known as good cold-forming material and applicable in common standard applications such as chemical plants, oil & gas, cranes industry.

Step 4: Identify the Straight SAE Flange Series

The flange is made in two pressure series, are 3000 series/Code 61 and 6000 series / Code 62.

Code 61

Code 62

Step 5: Identify the Straight SAE Flange thickness

The SAE Flange thickness measured in the schedule aligns to pipe thickness. Thickness is available in option for weld-on or butt weld SAE Flange only. The SAE Flanges are available in schedule 40, 80, 160, and XXS (double extra strong). The higher reading of schedule has a larger wall thickness in mm size. You can check on the pipe wall thickness size as a reference. For reference, you can refer to the table here.

Step 6: Identify the Straight SAE Flange Size

The 3000 series also known as Code 61 are available in sizes 3/8 inches to 5 inches (DN 10 to DN 125).

On the other hand, the 6000 series also called Code 62 is available in 3/8 inches to 3 inches.

Step 7: Confirm the Straight SAE Flange quantity

Calculate the SAE Flange quantity require before placing the order.

Kindly take note the Double Flange comes with 1 flat face and 1 groove face flange.

***If you are purchasing a single face of SAE Flange, you may add in accessories such as 4 pieces of Allan cap screw and 4 pieces of spring washers in order to complete one piece SAE Flange installation.
